Have you talked to your kids about underage alcohol use? Why not?
While it may seem like your teenagers disregard what you tell them, that isn’t really the case. Parents exert more influence than you may think, so it is your responsibility to talk to your children about expectations — including your disapproval of underage drinking.
FACT: An average of 39% of Randolph County students from grades 8-12 “report that their parents or guardians have not talked to them about not using alcohol.”*
You need to reiterate that underage drinking will not be tolerated in your household. While peer pressure is a powerful force, you have more influence than your teen’s peers. Don’t give up or feel discouraged — continue to bring up this important concern!
